Mitzvah Projects

Shalom Pittsburgh coordinates multiple hands-on volunteer projects throughout the year with the help of the Jewish Federation's Volunteer Center. An annual community-wide "Mitzvah Day" is held each year on December 25th. Shalom Pittsburgh is also part of the I-Volunteer series where young adults from various Pittsburgh jewish young adult organizations volunteer at various Jewish and non-Jewish sites all over the city.

Mitzvah Day

Mitzvah Day is an annual hands-on Jewish community volunteer event taking place on Christmas Day. Mitzvah Day allows members of the Jewish community to give back to the Pittsburgh community, and it enables the professional staffs and regular volunteers of many non-profit agencies to enjoy the holiday with their families and know that their agencies and clients are being cared for.

Mitzvah Day is a family-friendly event which brings out in excess of 1,000 volunteers to approximately 50 sites annually. Volunteers participate in a wide variety of activities, including packing backpacks to be distributed to at-risk children, serving meals to the homeless at Rainbow Kitchen and caring for animals at the Human Society, to name a few.

Mitzvah Day is handled by the Jewish Federation Volunteer Center - visit www.jfedvolunteer.org for more.
